Things have been busy at Toro! Just wanted to send out an update on one of our newest Trail projects, this new staircase that is helping to combat the erosion problem! This new project can be seen from the Badger Flats area, so next time you are in the park check it out!

November Trail work

This November there will be a couple of opportunities for trail work days. On Saturday the 21st a group known as the HWY 68 Hill Billies are planning to continue their work on the upper part of the Pipeline Trail by riding mountain bikes to the top. Tools will be dropped off in advance for those who do not have their own or a way to get them to the top. On Saturday the 28th, the weekend of Thanks Giving, a group by the name of MORCA (Monterey Off Road Cycling Association), will be leading a trail work day on the mid-lower range of the Pipeline Trail. Both work days are open to anyone no matter what your experience or ability. Looking for a Few Good Men... or Women

Just to give everyone an update on the trail progress, so far there are two pieces of this project that we are waiting on. One is the Swing Gate, which is almost done and looking good, and the other has to do with our favorite plant. The truth of the matter as many of you know is that there is a slight hold up in the plans mainly because of this one plant... Poison Oak. However, we have had a few small groups out on the trail doing some much needed expansion work in area that were to narrow. Even though the trail is drying out and becoming increasingly difficult to work on we are still pushing on until the two ends of the trail connect. What we are looking for right now is anyone with access to a long gas powered hedger that would be willing to loan it out or take the lead in mowing through some rough areas of poison oak and brush. We are always open to new ideas and feedback if anyone has any. However, each day that work doesn't get done on the trail, the harder it will be to keep this project going. Most everyone that we have talked to is still interested in seeing this project continue on anyway instead of waiting for next winters rain. The next challenge Rain or Shine on Pipeline

We will be continuing to work on the trail up to the Dam and begin work up to the V-notch. The planned start time is at 1pm but for those of you who would like to get started earlier just drop by the Office and we will get you signed up and set up.

Trail Work Day This Saturday May 2nd @ 1pm

With all the work that has been done to improve and create new trails here at Toro Park there is only one thing left to do... more work! So far there has been over 600 hours of volunteer time committed to these projects and well over a thousand dollars in new Annual Park Passes sold to help promote Toro Park Trail development. Congratulations and thanks to everyone for volunteering your time and we welcome anyone who would like to get involved.

Volunteer Trail Team Meeting

In light of the upcoming Volunteer Trail Work Day, This Thursday there will be a Volunteers Team leader Meeting at 4pm to go over the plans for the following work day on the 14th. This meeting is open to anyone who is interested in being a part of a core group of volunteers who will help with the planning and development of the Toro Park trail projects. Also team leader will be given the training needed in order to lead groups out on the trails to project areas. No experience is needed but prior trail training experience is welcomed.
